Why AEO matters
Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) is what SEO is becoming. AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google's AI Overviews don't just rank pages — they extract direct answers and cite sources. Pages that score well on AEO get cited; pages that don't get ignored. The AEO Scorecard tells you exactly which of your pages are AI-citable and which need work — across 9 measurable dimensions.
Recruitment is a high-AEO-value vertical: candidates and hiring managers ask AI engines for sector advice constantly. Getting cited puts your name in front of buyers at the moment of intent.
The 9-dimension scoring matrix
Every page gets scored 1-5 on: 1. **Sentence Complexity** — clarity for AI extraction (declarative sentences under 25 words score highest). 2. **Information Density** — substance per paragraph (zero filler). 3. **Content Structure** — H1 > H2 > H3 hierarchy and logical flow. 4. **Entity Context** — named tools, companies, people, and relationships. 5. **Evidence Quality** — specific stats with named sources. 6. **Freshness** — current-year references and dated data. 7. **Content Age** — publication recency (last 30 days = 5). 8. **Machine Readability** — FAQs, definition blocks, comparison tables. 9. **Authority** — external citation signals.
Reading your AI answer readiness score
Go to **Growth** → **Organic**. The score sits in the row of numbers at the top, and everything dragging it down appears as a row in **What to fix**, ranked against your other work. Open a row for what to change and why.
This score grades your **published** pages, because that is the site an answer engine can reach. Publish first, then check.
Per-page recommendations
Each row gives a specific instruction: add a questions-and-answers section with five short answers, cut the long sentences, name the sectors and towns you cover. Use the fix button to hand it to Helion, or open the pages and do it yourself.
Checking an article before you publish it
Open **Contents** → **Articles…** in the site editor and expand any article. **Check this article** scores the draft against the same nine dimensions and returns a per-dimension breakdown with rewrite suggestions, before the article is saved.
Check every draft. The feedback loop takes seconds, and a body of citable articles compounds over months.
Tracking improvement
The score updates as your published pages change. Work page by page rather than chasing the headline number: it is an average, and one strong page moves it less than five mediocre ones held back.
